If you want to work for an international company, you should learn English

Nowadays it’s very important to learn English, because it’s everywhere: brands, new films, TV shows, music and even work. Especially speaking about people who work for international companies. Do they really need to learn English?

I believe the answer is ‘yes’. English is an international language that the whole world learns. To make the work easier and the interaction faster employees should speak the same language and be able to work together. If knowledge of the language used to be an asset, now it is a necessity.

Before even starting to work, people are asked to take the test in English or answer several questions. For instance, my friend is an economist and she has recently had an interview. Her work isn’t connected with foreign colleagues but to be hired she has to pass the test to show her level of English.

I think it has to do with the prestige of the company and the ability to enrich your professional skills, reading articles and books in English, finding innovations and news from your field.

All in all, knowledge of the foreign language makes you a safe pair of hands for a boss. So if you learned English before but you got rusty you shall brush up your English before the interview. And if you don’t know the language enough to do some tests or to hold a conversation, you shouldn’t lose your head. You can acquire the language by immersing yourself in the culture. Just read books, listen to the music or podcasts in English, watch TV series or films and you will be head and shoulders above the competitors.
