‘international english’ used by non native speakers is destroying the english language.

It’s a controversial statement but I agree with it. Globalization of the English language has its own advantages (for ex. People all around the world can communicate easier and share info) and disadvantages. Let’s focus on the latter one.

Personally, I believe that when foreigners start to learn English they do it just for communication; I mean they don’t touch upon culture, traditions etc. Consequently, English loose its cultural difference. People still look at the foreign culture under the prism of stereotypes. Also, we paraphrase English into our native language (distort words) that in future will possibly create more dialects and original English will become a rarity. Moreover, we don’t pay enough attention to grammar (reminder: it’s just for communication, we’ll probably be understood) and use ordinary constructions thereby changing the language for the worst, depriving him of wealth of expression. Even now the British start to use easier forms in their language.

All in all, all these facts maybe not destroying but changing the original beautiful language enormously and not for the best.

  1. I believe that you are right that many people now simplify their language, losing its various features. But on the other hand, is it that bad? By simplifying the language, people make it easier for other peoples to learn. So i'm in two minds about this.

  2. That makes a lot of sense. I watched a video where a professor was talking about English as an international language. And she said that the largest amount of people who use English are not native speakers. So this way English changes and loses its original shape.
At the same time I've got mixed feelings about this. Because we still need an international language and no matter how hard we try to learn it, it's not our first language and we can't keep all the beauty of its vocabulary and learn all the grammatical features.
